Bring items you need daily, in your luggage. Certain brands of consumables are not available in Sri Lanka, you may have to search from shop to shop for your favourite or find an alternative. Even OTC medication like inhalers, antihistamines, pain killers- bring these with you to last your entire stay in Sri Lanka. Dairy alternatives are of limited supply (and in my opinion doesn’t taste great), you may find dairy alternatives in the larger grocery stores Colombo (only).
Pack light weight full length clothes to protect you from the sun and insects in Sri Lanka. Insect repellant in the early hours of the morning and evening is a must. Please use our pop up mosquito nets while sleeping.
Sometimes the weather is cool at night (16c-22c), pack a jumper for those nights.
Apply for your VISA (if required) via the official e-visa service. Beware of the fake websites.
It’s wise to pre-plan your accommodation and transport for the entire duration of your stay. Sati is happy to recommend a trusted travel agent to help plan the rest of your trip. Just drop us a note with your reservation.
While in Colombo you could use the Uber or Pick-Me apps for short trips around the city. Beware of Pick-Me services suggesting visiting shops ‘on the way’ to your destination. Be straight forward with them saying you’re not interested. These drivers usually get a commission for bringing customers to shops around the main City.
Ensure the currency you receive is damage free and without pen marks and stamps. Banks and businesses will not accept these. Try not to carry too much cash around with you. ATM’s are available in most towns and businesses usually accept VISA and MasterCard payments. Ask and prepare your payment options before you travel.
