If you’re up for a long walk and want tp get a great step count in, visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. Walk into this 147 acre bliss of an experience, passing well tended lawns, pavilions and an octagon conservatory. The garden is surrounded by the Mahaweli River (The longest river in Sri Lanka). It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants.
The orchid house and giant Javan fig tree is mesmerising. The Garden opens its gates at 7.30am and closes at 6pm. We recommend going first thing in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the mid day heat.
