Depending on your likeness to travel away from Sati Villa, there are options to enjoy a safari:
- Ridiyagama Safari Park
- Udawalawe National Park
- Yala National Park
- Bundala National Bird Park
- Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary
Pre plan your trip to the entrance of the parks with your transport provider. Then pay the entrance fee and hop on to the Safari Vehicles. Pack your breakfast at the Villa if you choose an early morning Safari, or leave soon after an early breakfast to a more flexible safari.
Ridiyagama has been a family favourite (we’ve been there twice!). It’s an easy trip with young kids. We prefer the bus ride through the park, it’s giggle inducing and we advise you (women) to wear sports wear (you know what I mean) as you get a workout in your seat, while the bus is navigating through the bumps. It’s lovely to see the rescued animals roaming free in a safe space for them. The tour guide calls out to his favourite elephant and she comes towards you reaching for a good pat on her trunk. The whole reserve ride is completed in an hour.
The other safari parks require a little pre-planning and strict timings (sometimes the weather is not ideal either). Your transport provider should be able to communicate with the park management and plan your trip.
