Sri Lankan Cooking Master Class

As experienced by Miheli Samarasinghe, Age 13:

Imagine staying in a hotel room, looking out the window, and all you can see are mountains of green for miles and miles. Well, you don’t have to imagine- visit Ella.

If you love stunning views, good food and a relaxed stay, Ella is the place for you. To start, the 9 Arches Bridge is one of the most famous architectural engineering projects in the world. It’s worth going to visit, especially if you get a chance to see the trains.

There are many cafes along the Ella road; my personal favourites include Chill Cafe and Rocky Cafe. At Chill Cafe, you can order the best burgers and sweet potato fries. Rocky Cafe is a popular option if you’re going out for breakfast. They have yogurt bowls served with fresh fruit and avocado toast. If you’re looking for a more authentic experience, both cafes also serve Sri Lankan food. This includes: rice, kottu roti, deviled fish or chicken and more.

One of my favourite experiences was going on the Flying Ravana Sky Walk, up to Little Adam’s Peak. The journey (including an additional few flights of stairs) may seem daunting, but it comes with the reward of a cool breeze, an optional king coconut and a view of the most beautiful mountain range in Sri Lanka. If you’re more of an adventurous person, you can also go on the Flying Ravana Swing or the Zip Line for a treacherous – yet thrilling – ride.
